It has long been known that people living in cities experienced higher stress than those living in rural areas. Previous studies have shown that the urban population is more prone to anxiety and bad moods.
But until now, only a few studies that detect how stress affects the brain in different populations.

Dr. Jens Pruessner of the Douglas Mental Health University, Quebec, said, "Previous findings have shown that the risk for anxiety disorders 21 percent higher for people from the town, which also has a 39 percent greater risk for mood disorders leboh."
"In addition, the incidence of schizophrenia for nearly two-fold for individuals who were born and raised in urban areas. Determination of the biological is the first step to correct this trend."
Dr. Pruessner and a team of scientists at the Central Institute of Mental Health, Mannheim, did brain scans of 32 student volunteers as they take part in tests of arithmetic. The students were led to believe that they are performing poorly and then asked to do better.
The scans revealed that the brain is more active urban population in response to stress. Living in urban areas was associated with a greater stress response in the amygdala, a brain area involved in emotional regulation and mood.
But better education in urban-related activity in the cingulate cortex, a region involved in regulating stress.
"These findings suggest that each area of the brain have different sensitivities to experience city life in one's life," said Dr. Pruessner. He also hoped the study continued to examine and clarify the relationship between psychopathology and its influence on mental disorders.
"These findings contribute to our better understanding of urban environmental risk for mental disorders and general health," he said as quoted by Yahoo health.Kamis (23 / 6). (Pri/OL-06)
