Virus Causes of Deaf On Baby

Certain viral infections during pregnancy can lead to organ damage, including the ears, so that the baby be deaf at birth. Actually, this damage can be prevented, but unfortunately the virus is often not detected in pregnant women.
The virus that causes deafness is rarely detected cytomegalovirus (CMV). In pregnant women, the virus is difficult to detect because the addition of technology to detect them is still limited, this viral infection sometimes produces no symptoms.

In healthy people, CMV infection triggers only mild flu-like symptoms, but in pregnant women can be transmitted to offspring and lead to growth disorders in the nervous system in the brain. As a result, among others, deafness, eye damage and intelligence does not develop.
It is estimated that between 1999 and 2009, there are at least 1800 newborn babies in Australia are infected with CMV from their mothers during pregnancy. Of these, all is not detected and only about 25 per cent recorded or reported.
Permanent health problems suffered by 13.5 percent of infants infected with CMV were reported, mostly in the form of disruption in the auditory system. Deaf triggered by this nerve disorder called Sensory Neural Hearing Loss (Sensorineural hearing loss).
"Children who are diagnosed Sensorineural hearing loss in Australia during this CMV does not undergo screening. Though the examination is necessary in order to be given early intervention," said Prof. William Rawlinson from the University of New South Wales, quoted from NineMSN, Monday (20 / 6 / 2011).
In addition to trigger disturbances in the nervous system and senses, CMV infection can trigger other disorders that are not less serious swelling of the liver and spleen as well as barriers to the development of intelligence.
Meanwhile, the CMV vaccine is currently not available because it is still developed and entered a new phase of the trial in the United States and Europe.
In newborns, symptoms that often accompany CMV infections, as quoted from Mayoclinic are as follows.

Yellowish skin and eyes

Purplish blotches and rashes on the surface kulkit

Low weight at birth

Enlarged spleen

The liver to swell and not work properly
